Flirty Thirty: A Milestone Birthday

Turning 30 is an event that cannot be ignored, it's a right of passage.  For years, I've been curious about the big 3-0.  Many of my friends hit that milestone ages ago, while other buddies are right here with me, ready to welcome on a whole new decade.

I used to think it thirty sounded kind of old, but now I feel like the fun is just beginning.  No matter if you're old or young, thirty is a milestone for sure.  It's a point to reflect on, to see where you've been (everywhere!) and where you are going (everywhere!).  I think they years just keep getting better and better.  ;)

Being the silly gal that I am, I thought it would be appropriate to have a big old Jules-fest, and throw one giant party tributing all the things that I love.  We had homemade Korean BBQ, soju punch served in a watermelon (seriously!), homemade rainbow chip frosted cupcakes, oh yeah, and the best part of all--everyone had to wear PINK!  Yes, even the boys.  It was quite memorable evening, indeed.

I was touched by all my awesome fiends who came to celebrate with me!  Being surrounded by so many of the amazing people in my life at one time was a true sign of happiness.  Major shout out to my buddies Jax, Kylie and Susan for coming early to help me set up, and thanks everyone for all the nice cards & vino!  You know me too well.

The best props of the night had to be my glittering rinestone 'flirty thirty' stem glass (thanks JAX), however, the pink snakeskin coyboy hats that we made Dave and Kevin wear as punishment for not wearing pink were pretty awesome as well.  Not to forget, the almighty pink ballerina tutu that Jeff wore with pride.  Thanks for being a sport!

Oh yeah, and shout out to Keira for her RRarrr Rarrr pink lipstick, just like me!  :)

All girls welcomed me into the club with a shot of soju and lots of laughs.

Speaking of 30--there's a lot of talk about this date in one's life.  Here are 30 things they say you should do before you turn thirty.  Whether or not you actually do these things, it's fun to reflect on all the things that make you one crazy character we know as YOU.

1.       Travel to as many foreign countries as possible
2.       Plan – at least – the outline of your retirement
3.       Try your dream job
4.       Be very alone for at least three months
5.       Learn how to cook
6.       Vegas.  Everyone must hit up Vegas once.
7.       Become a wine buff / beer connoisseur
8.       Quit a job you hate
9.       Fall in LOVE
10.      Know what you’d like in the ideal partner
11.      Move out of your parent’s home
12.     Feel proud of your work
13.      Get something published
14.      Learn another language
15.      Live on another continent
16.      Be on a reality TV show
17.      Take one ultimate road trip
18.      Go somewhere alone
19.      Sleep Under the stars
20.     Do something you can’t tell your parents about
21.     Stay up for 48 hours
22.     Be a mentor
23.     Write a letter to yourself in 10 years
24.     Get in crazy good shape
25.     Jump off of something
26.     Learn how to dance
27.     Fail miserably at something
28.     Do something that scares you
29.     SPLURGE on something you really really want.  You’re worth it
30.      Get in CRAZY GOOD shape

How'd you do?

The second half of the party carried on at Forest room five--of course, my favorite bar in town.

We bumped into a large group of men celebrating a bachelor party.  The batchelor challenged me to a chugging contest, and how could I resist the chance to kick some booty in a pink dress.  I win!

Thank you buddies for coming out to celebrate this grand occasion with me!  Thank you Kylie for postponing your return home to Oz, and thank you  to my brother Mark for that sweet birthday photo--he's so good!

I will remember this night always!

Special Appearance on the Steve Harvey Show - Airs 6/3

Hello, NBC Studios, Chicago!  I have arrived!

A great surprise popped up this week.  I was asked to be a special guest on the Steve Harvey show.  Forty-eight hours later--I was on a plane to Chicago!
The experience was quite magical, even for a girl like me who works in TV!  Though I've visited many sets in my time, and even appeared in front of the camera on occasion, the excitement of being on a a national TV set for a was quite real.  This is the bigtime, baby!  It was wild, seeing their large staging areas, their studio audience, and their massive crews...yeowza!

I was treated like royalty. Hair and makeup?  I could get used to this.

And I had my very own green room!  Thanks, Steve.

It was fun watching the show while I awaited my big moment.  The anticipation builds.

Backstage, I had a fun run in with Chef Ann and the whole gang from the New Orleans School of Cooking, who was in another segment!  I had the pleasure of taking a cooking class with her when I was in NOLA last summer...my oh my, my mouth has never tasted such deliciousness!  Chef Ann's homemade gumbo is AMAZING.  I was tempted to sneak on set to get a spoonful, but I kept my composure.
(Here's the video I hosted featuring Chef Ann at the New Orleans School of Cooking:

And just like most television these days...just when you think you're getting somewhere, they leave you hanging, just like an episode of LOST.  And in this story too, the ending is now and the rest is a well kept secret.  My lips are sealed!  What did I do on the Steve Harvey show and how did it turn out?  You'll just have to wait to find out.

Tune in to the Steve Harvey show on MONDAY, JUNE 3, 2013 and look for my segment.  I promise you, it's worth it!  Oh, it's worth it!

Cheers to these bright and beautiful women!

And cheers to my buddy Ruge who's always down for a fly-by visit!

The little things

It's the little things in life that make you smile:

Best friends who come in from out of town.

The delicious strawberry cream cheese cupcakes from Tee & Cakes.  A new favorite.

Dance. It makes you feel good!

Just ask Ryan @ the Boulder Ballet.  :P

Food.  Trying new restaurants. Eating until it hurts.  Great company.  YES!

Shoes.  Who doesn't love great shoes.

The good morning song.  It's so silly!

A good haircut and a nice chat.

Riesling, cheese, and proscuitto.

Spring Cleaning.  It feels good!  And bad.

A good book.  While I'm not much of a reader, it's always nice to find something you're interested in!  Can't wait to crack open my friend Carrie Regan's Rumors of Savages book.

Things that make you laugh.

A good old par-tay.

MMM, ramen.  The good kind.  :)

Reunions.  Make new friends, but keep the old.  These ones are keepers!

Kylie's Citrus Pasta.  It's the best!
