I worked the America's Got Talent auditions in Denver last weekend. It was fun seeing some of Denver's most talented (and not so talented) give their all for the chance to be on TV and win $1,000,000! While many of my peers spent the day registering the masses and handing out release forms, I was lucky to work inside the audition room and operate the DV Cam.
It was a beautiful thing to watch the hopefuls sing / play / dance their hearts out in front of me, through the window of a 4 x 3 LCD screen. Some had clearly been preparing for weeks, while others had probably thought, "heck, it's Saturday, why not?" Each applicant had some level of talent, and an honorable passion that they were proud to share with the world. By auditioning on that day, they were just one step closer to making their dream come true. Kudos to them.
It was also exciting to see how another show and production company operates. Dozens of people fly out from LA to conduct these auditions! Different than the summer I spent several consecutive months on the road to produce content, what a cool gig to get to travel each week and have a life back home. Rather than working on the projects remotely, as I do now, I was inspired to learn this crew gets to get their hands and feet wet at every event.
