The Dream Travel Job is mine!

Exciting news!  Guess who's won her "DREAM TRAVEL JOB"??  ME!!!
This Spring, Viator held a video contest looking for four videographers to travel in teams of two to North America and Europe!  Ryan Van Duzer and Asha Mevlana were the lucky winners in rounds one and two...and guess who snagged a spot in round 3...ME!  And the winner of round four--and my new travel buddy--Brock Goombridge (aka Backpacker Brock)!  Ryan and Asha are already out exploring Europe, so Brock and I have been paired up to take on North America!  Viator is giving us $15,000 to pay for our expenses and report on the best tours and attractions in 20 cities over the next 60 days!  Ah, and one more thing...When it's all said and done, we'll be creating a wrap-up video, and the team that gets the most votes will win $10,000 to share.  Seriously.  Think we can do it?  Stay tuned, we'll need your vote!

Here's a peek at my entry video:

TTFN, Denver!

Before reporting for duty for the "Dream Travel Job," I had a long goodbye-hug with my hometown in Denver.  I'll be away for 2.5 months, shooting and hosting travel videos (now that sounds like a dream job!), which means, there's plenty to do to get ready!

It was wonderful to celebrate my new gig with friends over pints with my friends at Vine Street Pub.  That patio is just too darn perfect on a beautiful Spring day...and my friends are all too amazing as well!

I spent some time exploring the city like a tourist.  My buddy Kylie and I did a grand tour of Lo-Hi before heading she headed back to Australia, and Scottie stopped through Denver as well.

I enjoyed a few colorful cocktails and crafty ice cubes...

And showed off a little Kickball spirit.  Whoever invented slosh kickball should win an award.  I love this tradition.

Whoever invented sleepy time yoga class should also win an award.  This is so relaxing.  You grab a blanket and eye mask and do five poses for ten minutes each--so you basically just lay there for an hour.  HA!
Hiking with dad in Deer Creek Canyon was sure pretty pretty!  My dad knows all the plant names and can even get a butterfly to pose for a photo!

And my mom and I sure know how to have "FUN"!  Whether we're road trippin' across the USA or just eaten' noodles bowls and shoppin' 'til we're droppin'.  We hope this year's Best of the Road contestants have tons of FUN this summer!  It looks like Rand McNally is gassing up the RV and getting ready to hit the road.  And it looks like we're comin' with.  Haha.
Shout out to the best creatives in town and Sauce Society!  I will miss a few of these fun gatherings...but there will be more.

Ciao, Denver!  See you in a few months!

Dirndls and Lederhosen

Who needs tank tops and blue jeans when you can wear dirndls and lederhosen?
When my colleague Kelley and I set foot in Austria--after one or two crazy overnights in planes--and were shooting in no less than two hours.  That's the way we do it, the hard-workin' travel filmmakers we are.  Simple as it may sound, we had work to do...we had to capture the fashionably dressed men hoisting the grand maypole up for the May Day holiday.
We spent the week visiting gorgeous location after gorgeous location, while diving in to the world of fashion.  We were on assignment to feature former farmer clothes, the dirndl, and how this hot little number is making it's fashionable comeback in modern day society.

Truthfully, I had never dreamed of going to Austria.  That was before, when I didn't know what I was missing.  Now, I know Austria is a fairytale place, just as beautiful as neighboring Switzerland, or New Zealand and colorful Colorado.  The classic architecture with beautifully carved porch details, flower-filled window boxes, surrounded by the gorgeous mountain landscape felt all too good to be true.  It reminded me of a place I called home for many years, Vail, Colorado, where Austrian influence is everywhere.  I suppose it would be most correct to say that Vail reminds me of Austria rather than the other way around.  Ah yes, the hills are alive in the place so proud to take a supporting role in the Sound of Music.  Maybe you prefer to associate Austria with the wiener schnitzel, Mozart, and lederhosen?

Kelley and I had some time to play.  Okay, who am I kidding, we didn't have any time to play, but when you like your work, you are playing all day.  :)

I really enjoyed the Salt Mine near Lake Hallstatt.  I wanted to lick the walls.  Seriously, there was salt accumulating on the walls.  We had to wear these sexy green jailhouse outfits with a reinforced bum patch, so you didn't get salt all over your clothes.  I mean, I never saw the white stuff fall from the sky, but the pants did come in handy when we slid down the wooden slide.  Thank goodness I avoided a second splinter in my butt that day (the evil wooden boat got me the first time).

While there was no time to party, but we did sample Austria's non-alcoholic beverage cabinet, including Flux, with the cute butterfly logo, and Amadudler, with the dirndl and lederhosen-clad couple on the bottle...CUTE!

By the end of the journey, we had our fashion fill.  It was so cool to see the fabric makers printing on silk with these ancient metal stamps, and watch the hat maker shape his caps, and see the shoe maker nail in the sole, and catch the seamstresses really work the thimble and needle.  Fashion...turn to the left.  Fashion...turn to the right.
We even got to meet the stunning Lena Hoschak and drool over her vintage and traditional line.

Here's a little preview of what I saw through the lens this week; Kelley doing her thing:

And the reverse:

Prost!
