DENVER: The TEDxRiNo Neighborhood Series Continues

The TEDxRiNO Neighborhood series continues!  Last year, TravelingJules Productions supported the first ever TEDxRiNo event by shining a spotlight on the neighborhood, getting to highlight six members of the community in an innovative new video series!

So this year, we picked up right where we left off!  I got to partner up with the fabulous Ajyra Jones who took the lead producing the shoots, while I focused on camera!  This series has been a wonderfully fun and creative outlet for me, and I just love connecting with the community and telling their stories.  It's cool to step back and look at the collection as a whole and see how why RiNo is a truly special place.

AND--did you know, this series won both a 2016 Heartland Emmy Award and a Bronze Telly award?  TravelingJules Productions is honored to be recognized for this humbling accomplishment.

MINNEAPOLIS: City Bike Tour

Bikes, bikes, bikes!  Remember the freedom you had riding a bike as a kid?  Wind in your hair, excitement abound?  I have to say, when traveling, being behind a pair of handlebars is quite a fun way to see the sights.  You can see so much more than when you're on foot, but you also have time to take it all in--life just moves too fast by car!

I recently discovered that Minneapolis is a happening place!  The city is exploding with hip restaurants, cool breweries, plenty of outdoors activities, tons of bike trails.  It feels a lot like Denver, actually...with a few more lakes and a lot more mosquitos!  :P  Thanks to the W Minneapolis - The Foshay, I got to take a spin around downtown Minneapolis on two wheels!  See what we got up to, right here:

DENVER: Yoga with the Sharks

Lately, I've been focusing on my fitness!  Why?  Because it's good to be good to your body.  Right now, I have a ton of editing to do...and sitting in front of the computer all day is just torture for your body.  Also--when I'm in the field shooting, it's taxing carrying around heavy camera equipment and maneuvering into different positions to get the shot!  I need my strength!  So...here's one thing that doesn't take a lot of convincing for me to do:

Yoga with the Sharks!

Yes...it's true!  One pretty cool yoga teacher has made a deal with the Downtown Aquarium - Denver (and also the Butterfly Pavilion) to offer a Saturday morning yoga class every other week!  While it's easy to get distracted, it's a wonderful setting to do yoga under the sea.  See for yourself, right here:

Check the schedule for upcoming classes right here: http://facebook.com/anahatavinyasa/

BTW--I've been told there are a lot of cool places to do yoga in Denver...the Botanic Gardens, Red Rocks, and even my neighborhood gym has a class on the rooftop!  So, perhaps I'll have to try them all!

Destination Korea Video Series

I've gotta say, I was pretty stoked to be invited back to KOREA!  I lived in Korea for four summers teaching English,  and when I left, I always knew I'd be back...next time, with my video camera!  Sure enough, here I was, video camera in hand, back on Korean soil!  Funny how things work out.

It was a true blessing to be able to capture a few highlights of Seoul and create videos for Viator!  It was an awesome mix of delicious food, Korean palaces, shopping and sights.  I wish I could have stayed longer, but, I guess I'll just have to come back another time!  :P

Here's what I got up to...it's totally worth grabbing some popcorn and having date with YouTube!  :)

Women's Travel Fest

I always love taking the time to meet up with my travel video pals--whereever in the world that may be!  This year, the reunion is in San Francisco--Women's Travel Fest is where it's at!  Our community is growing fast, so it's nice to see our core team of chicks just killing it!!  There are few opportunities to see my network of video blogger friends in the flesh, so I take every chance I can get to pow wow with my pals.  Cheers to old friends and new ones too!

Here's a little story I filmed with the talented Travel with Kate for Expedia!

We worked right up until the last second to deliver this right after the event!

One thing I learned, if ever in doubt, just wash it out, dance it out.  :P

Can't wait until next year!

Ice Bucket Challenge

The ice bucket challenge has gone viral!!! And, let's face it, there are far worse things we could be watching on the internet than frame after frame of our friends dumping ice cold water over their heads, right?  As much as I chain letter in modern day time.  But, hell, in the name of charity, it's a great excuse to give a little to a good cause...So, without further ado, here goes nothing!

Hot off the PRESS!  A few words of advice for fellow travelers plus some stand-out stories from my adventures on the road.  Check out the TRIPFILMS blog for Twelve Travel Questions with TravelingJules!  Go to: http://blog.tripfilms.com/?p=544

Next Trip: India, Morocco, Argentina, who knows!  :P

CREDIT: Brock Groombridge1. What are three things you take on every trip?
My camera, my computer and pink lipstick!
CREDIT: Brock Groombridge
2. What is your best remedy for jet lag?
Whatever you do, don’t think about what time it is back at home. Change your clocks right away so it’s easy to adjust to the new time zone and never look back.
3. What is the first thing you do when you get to a new place?
CREDIT: Mickey WilsonSeek out adventure! I always try to schedule in some free time to take a walk, wander around, do a little people watching, take a few photos, make friends with the locals, and explore.
CREDIT: Mickey Wilson
4. What place has the best food? The worst food?
Hands down, Thailand has the best food. Every meal was better than the last. I took a cooking class and learned some recipes to take home as souvenirs. Mmm! The worst food? The first time I went to Korea, I was really not a big fan of the food. Spicy octopus dishes and kimchi was not my thing. It really took some time to develop my palate. But, once I tasted bulgogi and kalbi (Korean BBQ), I was sold. Now, Korean food is at the top of my list for food! Mashisoyo!
5. What is one place that changed your outlook on life?
jules elephant_aThailand. This is where I learned how to fly by the seat of my pants, how to find comfort in the unknown, how to survive in a totally exotic place, how to trust others and how to trust in myself. I pushed myself to get out of my comfort zone and try new things, and I was brilliantly rewarded.
I made the spontaneous decision to book the trip after finding fun traveler friends while teaching English in Korea. We went on an amazing journey around the country—we rode elephants in the jungles of Chiang Mai, we learned how to cook curry and Pad Kai Graprow, we escaped death driving motorbikes along tuk tuks, we visited temples with Buddahs big and small, we bargained for clothes in Bangkok, we found peace in beachfront bungalows in Koh Phang Yen, and we volunteered to aid post-tsunami wreckage in Koh Phi Phi. What an adventure.
6. What is your favorite travel quote?
“Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the number of moments that take our breath away.” – Anonymous
7. Is there any music that inspires you to travel?
Every trip has its own tone and “theme song.” I love that about travel. Just like the radio, you can dial up a trip that fits your mood and then dance to the rhythm of the music.
8. What is your craziest true travel story?
That time I was in a reality TV show on Outside TV and had to camp overnight on the snow in the Colorado backcountry the middle of winter and then climb up a mountain with 50 pounds of gear on my back while producing a short film in a matter of days…yeah, that happened!
Here’s my experience in a nutshell:
9. How do you think that travel videos can be useful to travelers, even if they aren’t filmmakers themselves?
Travel video can take you to a place way faster than an airplane. It gives you the feel of a place without the time and expense of going there. And, hopefully, the moments you see on screen will inspire you to set out on an adventure you can call your own.
10. What is the goal/philosophy of your videos?
jules selfie
I aim to produce informative and entertaining travel content that inspires viewers to jump out of their seat and explore this amazing planet, too. Let’s go!
11. What advice do you have for someone who wants to make travel videos?
Do it! If you love to have new experiences and document your adventures, grab your camera and let the magic happen! While making travel videos can be tons of fun, just remember, there’s no need to capture EVERYTHING. Think carefully about how you want to tell your story before you hit the red “record” button. Avoid having too much footage at the end of the day and only roll camera when everything is perfect!
helicopter jules
12. What is your best travel tip?
Have fun. Prepare for the unexpected. Enjoy those little moments that are less than perfect, they will make for a great story.
