Cinque Terre

Leaving Chiara in Switzerland, feeling both energized and apprehensive about traveling alone, I prepared for the unexpected. Perhaps I would have a great time by myself, spend time doing want I want to do, and have plenty of time to think, write and BLOG! Or, perhaps I'd find some cool people on the road and enjoy making new friends, like I did when I went to Thailand! Either way, I had a good feeling about my next destination, Cinque Terre, especially because I'd heard so many great things about it (thanks for the recommendation Bryn and Cyndi!).

It was a great surprise to unload my hefty bag in my hostel room and be immediately greeted by the three boys next door: Conor, Dak and Kyle. I couldn't have asked to meet more friendly, fun and energetic people to chill out with in Cinque Terre.

Of course, the boys had no problem letting me "join" their group. We rushed off to buy a bottle of Limoncello to commence our new friendship and recap our lives in 30 second speeches. That night, we attempted to see town number four, but (oops) ended up in town number five. There, we enjoyed some Gelatto at the seaside, talked some smak, and found some frogs on the hike home.

The next morning, I did the hike. It was gorgeous. I loved the seaside towns and had a great time taking photos. I climbed up and around four out of the five towns. The exercise was refreshing, but I would have been exhausted after the 4 hour hike, had I not been so pumped go home, pick up the boys, and rush back over to town number four (Vernazza) to chill out and get some sun.

(Can you tell I haven't seen the sun all summer!).

Me and the boys sat on the rocks for about 3 minutes, before they jumped in the water and were never seen again. They were funny! I watched them crazily splunk into the water from a nearby rock, doing dives, back flips, and pencil flips like they were creatures of the water. I, happy to perch on my rock and let my legs dip into the water, enjoyed every moment of the show. We rode the boat back to RioMaggiore and then savored the area's prized pesto and bottles of 2€ wine (which we begged the clerk to sell to us as he closed the shop). We spent the evening getting to know our new hostel apartment housemates, counting to six and admiring the beach. :P

The next day, was a late start, but we still covered a lot of ground. We packed up and took the train to Florence, having a quick day trip/stopover at the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Sorry, no silly photos.

There, the boys and I parted ways. It was sad to say goodbye, but perhaps we'll catch up again one day (ie. Turkey! Who's in?). Thanks for the laughs! Ciao boys!
